I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been a practitioner since 2000 and in private practice since 2011. I'm currently licensed in the state of Texas and am a Texas Board Approved Supervisor providing supervision for master's level social workers. I've held previous licensure in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
For over 15 years I have loved my work and have passionately worked with women, men, teens, young adults and families in various settings including residential treatment with adolescents, college counseling and private practice primarily with teens, young adults and women. In these settings I have been a therapist and Clinical Director focused on supporting teens, young adults, adults and families through difficulties in parenting, communication, stress management, motivation, depression, anxiety, worries, academic and career struggles and trauma.
After working and knowing many women over the years, I have also developed a special interest in working with women and their partners around perinatal mood disorders. To support this I have completed the 2 day certificate program from PostPartum Support International and hope to support women and their families through this very difficult time in their lives.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Supervisor and have been licensed in Maryland, District of Columbia and Texas. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Simmons College in Boston MA and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Clark University in Worcester MA. I am also board approved as a Supervisor for master's level clinicians working toward their license. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education and regularly attend workshops and trainings in evidence based treatment modalities specifically around anxiety, depression and trauma. In addition I have completed a certificate training in Perinatal Mood Disorders and specialized training in Child Centered Play Therapy and a week long training with Rachel Simmons "Girl Meets World" for working with adolescent girls groups in schools and communities.
I became interested in Social Work after working at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children with chronic life threatening illnesses. The love of these kids and their families and the work being done at this camp sent me out to explore social work as a profession and I've never looked back! After graduating with my MSW, I began my social work career working in residential treatment as a therapist and later Clinical Director with children and teens who struggled with severe mental illness, abuse histories and behavioral problems. I have been a therapist in College Counseling and for the last 5 years have been in private practice working with teens, young adults and adults who come in for a variety of reasons including phase of life difficulties, anxiety, depression, disordered eating, career and academic problems, parenting challenges and perinatal mood disorders.
I love my work and believe that my greatest skills are my ability to listen deeply and to provide an open, caring space for people of all ages to explore their thoughts, feelings and lives in an authentic way. I believe that the best therapy has a mix of empathy and trust and involves work and is active. I am not a passive therapist and work hard to blend listening and support with guidance and tools to support clients in discovering, healing and creating their own vision for their life.
I use an eclectic mix of therapeutic techniques including Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Interpersonal therapy and psycho-education.
